Nayana Keshava Bhat is a contemporary dance artiste from India, currently based in Salzburg, Austria. She engages in works that embody and express contrasting ideas, and strives at bridging the gap between contemporary art and its (potential) audiences.
Born and raised in the southern Indian coastal town, Manipal, Nayana has her roots in Indian classical dance forms, Bharatanatyam and Kathak. She is a professional contemporary dance artiste since 2007 and has accumulated a diverse artistic experience ever since. She has worked with two Indian dance companies in Bangalore, collaborated as an independent artiste with artistes from various disciplines, and acquired her post-graduate certification in choreography from Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance.
Nayana initiated her choreographic practice in 2012, wherein she relentlessly pursues her research on creating artistic works that observe, dissect and expose the questions of our times.
In 2017, Nayana co-founded INFLUX - Network for Dance, Theatre and Performance, with a vision of creating artistic works in dance, (physical) theatre and clown-theatre; to create collaborative exchange among artistes from multiple disciplines through artistic research and performance laboratories, workshops and classes.
Besides her performances and choreographic works, Nayana facilitates workshops and classes in order to share the virtue of movement with a wider audience.
Nayana is a qualified journalist and and practises it on a freelance basis. She loves the definiteness of the written word as much as the abstract albeit holistic experience of dance.
