Bharatanatyam

Bharatanatyam is a 5000 year old dance tradition from India. The dance is a balanced mixture of physical techniques based on rhythm that are geometrical in form like classical Ballet, and expression of various emotions. It is rooted in the practices of rhythmic dancing and theatrical expression, and is highly spiritual in nature. Bharatanatyam offers a beautiful a way of combining spirituality and movement together with story-telling.
Nayana has trained in Bharatanatyam for 8 years under Guru Shubhada Sudhir, and for 3 years under Guru Minal Prabhu, both hailing from the Kalakshetra tradition. She conducts Bharatanatyam classes for beginners in Salzburg, with an intention to share this ancient tradition with a wider audience. Her method of teaching includes, besides the formal syllabus, self-centering exercises with a special focus on presence. Nayana firmly believes in the power of presence, both in performing arts and daily life, and practices it in her work.
The classes are currently open for registrations for the summer semester at Afro Asiatisches Institut, Salzburg.
